French Press Coffee Guide (Cafetière)

The French Press is the quintessential comfort brew method. Because it utilizes a porous stainless mesh rather than paper, it preserves rich coffee diterpenes (kahweol and cafestol), yielding a deeply viscous, chocolate-rich mouthfeel.

The Clean French Press Technique

Step 1 • Dose & Saturate

Pour All 450g Water Vigorously

Add 30g coarse ground coffee (our Signature House Blend is ideal). Pour all 450g hot water vigorously to ensure every coffee particle is completely submerged. Start your 4-minute timer.

Step 2 • 4:00 • Break the Crust

Gentle Stir & Sink Grounds

At 4 minutes, a thick floating crust of coffee grounds will have formed at the surface. Take a spoon and gently stir the surface crust. Most of the grounds will naturally sink to the bottom of the beaker.

Step 3 • 4:30 • Scoop Off Foam & Fines

Remove Astringent Foam

Use two spoons to gently skim off the white foam and floating micro-fines resting on the liquid surface. Discard them. This secret step removes the harsh bitterness and prevents silt in your mug.

Step 4 • 5:00 • Surface Plunge & Pour

Do Not Crush The Bed

Place the plunger mesh just beneath the surface of the liquid to act as a sieve. Do not force the plunger down to the bottom, which agitates sediment! Decant smoothly into warm mugs immediately.
